सूत उवाच |

Suta Goswami said (to the sages)

चन्द्रेण च तपस्तप्तं षण्मासं च निरन्तरम् |

मृत्युञ्जयेन मन्त्रेण पूजितो वृषभध्वजः || 39 ||

And penance (was) performed by the moon continuously for six months, worshipping Lord Shiva (who has a bull on his flag) by the Mrityunjaya mantra.
